It’s that time of year again! The Gretna Public Library’s staff is looking forward to another great summer of reading and fun and we want YOU to be part of it! We have SRP available for all ages- children, teens, and adults- and registration begins online Monday, May 6th, and programs and events will start-up the week of June 10th.

LEARN the Benefits of Biking!

May is National Bike Month and to celebrate, we’re having our friend from Bike Masters bike shop, Dave Reinarz, out to talk about the many benefits of biking- from exercise to errand running, your bike is a wonderful way to get around and enjoy time outside. Dave will also go over important tips for safe riding, and show some basic bike maintenance that cyclists of all ability levels should know. Please join us for this fun program that will surely have you ready to do some riding this summer!

New Library Card Option for Residents of SIDs

The Gretna Public Library staff is excited to give community members living in SIDs a new option in obtaining a library card. These Summer Reading Program Cards are for future patrons who want to check out our large collection’s items from May 1^st through August 31^st. Summer Reading Program Cards will cost $15 for a household account – that’s just $3.75 per month! If, at the end of August, a patron wishes to get a full year membership, then s/he can pay the remaining $25 for our normal full-year card. If a year-round card is acquired, then at that point any member of the household who is 6 years old or older may obtain his/her own card. Card registration and activation will begin on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, and normal ID requirements are required for signing up.

LEARN to Stay Fit Anytime with Anytime Fitness

Join us at the Main Library on April 25th at 10:15am, and discover simple and easy ways to keep from living a sedentary lifestyle. Paige Peterson, owner of our local Anytime Fitness, will be leading the program and answering fitness questions you have.

Library Cards for Active Duty

The Gretna Public Library is proud to announce that we now offer library cards for our active duty military personnel! We realize that a growing number of these honorable folks live outside the Gretna City limits, but we want to make sure you have a library card, and a library you can bring your family to and call home. If you are interested in signing up for an Active Military card, please stop by the Library and bring along your active duty military ID card. The Gretna Public Library staff thanks you for your service!

Food for Fines

Here’s an opportunity to help your community and your wallet! Beginning February 18th and running to March 4th, the Library will be taking Food for Fines. Bring in canned goods, boxed meals, daily hygiene products, and other none perishables to reduce fines on your Library account. Each item brought in to either Library location will count toward $1.00 off the total amount owed, up to $30. All goods will be donated to the Gretna Neighbors organization to benefit those in our community who are in need.

**This promotion only applies to fines for items that have been returned late, and not for lost or damaged material fines.

Celebrate the Gretna Children’s Library’s 1st Birthday!

We’re having a 1st birthday party for the Gretna Children’s Library and YOU are invited!

The Children’s Library has been open to the public for one year now, and it has been so much fun watching children and their families stop in to pick out books and take part in our programs! With all the fun and exciting things that have happened over the past year, it’s hard to believe that not so long ago, we were moving in!

Now it’s time to celebrate, and we want you to be there!

Time: All day we will celebrate, but there will be a special party at 3:30pm

Friends of the Library Bake Sale

The Friends of the Library are having a bake sale Saturday, February 9th at McKinney’s Food Center starting at 9:00am. All proceeds from the sale will help the Friends of the Library to purchase items needed for the Library. In the past, this money has been used to purchase books, computers, furniture, and has even help sponsor our Summer Reading Programs. We hope to see you at the bake sale as you support your library and enjoy a sweet treat as well.

As always Gretna Public Library will keep your email private. Furthermore, if at any time you would no longer like to receive an email with the Upcoming Releases .pdf, then please send us an email with Unsubscribe Upcoming Releases in the subject line. We will remove you from the list ASAP.

LEARN: Tips from a Baking Expert

Are you someone who enjoys baking cakes and would like to learn some special baking tips from an expert? If so, join us at the Main Library on February 28th at 10:15am!
