A Special Thank You to Our Veterans

militaryIt’s Memorial Day, so what better way for the Library to thank our veterans for their service than to introduce our new “Military Veterans Library Card?”

Previously, the Library was able to offer a library card to those individuals who had the status of “active duty,” but we have since been able to add to that offer and now can issue library cards to those who are not only active duty, but also, retired military, or are a military veteran without having to charge them the non-resident fee required by Sarpy County.

If you are a veteran of our military all we need you to provide us in order to obtain a library card is appropriate documentation that shows your status of active duty, veteran, or retired military.  Examples of such documents include, but aren’t limited to military ID, DD214 form, Certificate of Release, or Discharge from Active Duty.

“On behalf of the staff at Gretna Public Library, I would like to extend thanks to all veterans who have served our country.  We are honored to offer library cards to those who have protected the very freedoms that the Library provides its community.”
-Krissy Nelson, Library Director, Gretna Public Library.

It’s National Library Week!

Be sure to stop by the Main Library or Children’s Library (or both!) to celebrate National Library Week!  We have some neat displays up to check out, an awesome Grab Bag Book Sale going on, and even treats to snack on while you’re here.

snapshot day

April 17th is Library Snapshot Day at the Library!
What does this mean?
When you visit either Library on Thursday, tell us why you visited the Library that day.  We’ll have a two question survey for you at each branch location that literally will take you just a minute to fill out while we check your items out to you.  The data we collect will show us what a day in the life of our Library looks like, and is another way we can share the value of having a library in the community.

Why is this information important to us?
This information will give us more knowledge about how to best serve our community.  By knowing what ways you utilize the Library and its services, we’ll have a better understanding as to what type of materials, services, and programs our community appreciates.  This data also allows us to be even bigger advocates for the Library as it will provide a vivid picture of the way patrons use the Library on daily basis.

At the end of the day, survey data as well as circulation and attendance numbers will be sent to the American Library Association to add to the data they are compiling which will show what happens in libraries across the nation in just one single day!
