Wee Read Archives – 2010
January 19/21: We had a super-de-duper fun time at this week’s Wee Read! Our featured book was Millions of Snowflakes by Mary McKenna Siddals. Mr. Bear made his usual fun appearance and then we played with the parachute. Then we
had a great time using stamps of all shapes, sizes, and colors.
February 2/4: Mittens was the theme of our time together this week. We banged on our blocks, had a rhyme time full of shivers, and then read the board book version of Jan Brett’s The Mitten. Finally we decorated our very own paper mitten with special double-headed markers!
February 16/18: This week we read some sweet tales like Hush Little Baby by Sylvia Long. Then we used frozen food coloring and water sticks to make beautiful “water color” abstract art!
March 2/4: We had a great time singing. Finger plays and rhymes were fun and silly. Then we had a special story. Finally we had an interactive time with lots of soft and snuggly puppets. Both parents and their wee ones had a great time playing with the puppets.
March 16/18: We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day this week by focusing on the color green! Blocks were banged, songs were sung and rhymes were chanted. Then the children got to play with planting soil and grass seed. With lots of help from their caregiver the kids decorated cups and made a wee garden of their own.
March 30/April 1: Today we read fun springtime stories. Then we used Peep marshmallow treats along with vanilla pudding to paint our own special easter egg! The children had a wonderful time with this creative and yummy craft.
April 13/15: We can tell that spring is in the air because of how much we’re all sneezing! We had a fun time with spring-related rhymes and fingerplays. Then we read sweet stories like Jill Ackerman’s Welcome Spring. Finally we made our own decorative umbrellas to get ready for April showers.
Apri 27/29: Today we had butterfly fun! We wiggled like caterpillars and fluttered scarves like butterflies. Then we read Will Grace’s Caterpillar Dance. Finally we decorated our own butterflies with pretty colored tissue paper.
May 11/13: Last month we celebrated April showers therefore it was natural that we had fun with May flowers this week! After our block, rhyme, and fingerplay time we read Lois Ehlert’s Planting a Rainbow. Then we had fun playing with our own Play Dough rainbows.
May 25/27: We had a super-fun time during our finger play and rhymes. Then we read Petr Horacek’s charming book Look Out, Suzy Goose. Then we decorated our very own rainbows with sparkles, petals, and tissue paper.
June 8/10: We sang silly stories about sea creatures. Then we read I’m the Best Artist in the Ocean by Kevin Sherry. Finally we made our very own silly octopuses to take home.
June 22/24: It was a week of frogs! The children had fun with froggie rhythms and rhymes. There was even a silly frog story. Finally the children made their very own craft to take home.
July 6/8: This week we sang about bathtime and then heard silly bathroom stories. Then we decorated our very own bathtubs and rubber duckie puppets. Good squeaky-clean fun was had by all!
