Are you someone who loves books?  Do you ever think that books are taking over your house?  If you answered “yes” to either of these questions then this is a program you surely must attend!

Thomas Jefferson Fitzpatrick was a book fanatic!  In fact, he loved books so much that he could only live in the kitchen of his house because the rest of the rooms were filled from floor to ceiling with books!

It’s that time of year again: tax time!  If you are in need of state and federal tax forms or booklets stop by the Library and pick up the ones you need.  If there is a form you are looking for and it is not one we have available, let a staff member know, and we will gladly print it off for you free of charge.

The Founding of Omaha

Upcoming Book Sale!

Another great book sale is coming up November 23rd – December 4th at the Gretna Public Library!  Look for some great, gently useds hardback titles, as well as many children’s titles too!  This will also be a good opportunity to pick up some excellent stocking stuffers just in time for the holiday season. AG00394_[2]

Adaptations of Nebraska’s Birds

Nebraska[1]Fish and Wildlife Biologist, Melissa Santiago, from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will be at the library to teach us about some of Nebraska’s birds, and the ways in which they have adapted in order to survive here.  She will explain the importance of birds’ eyes, feathers and feet, and why different birds have variations in each of those body parts in order to adapt to the environment they live in.

Pumpkin Carving Contest!

Nothing quite says Halloween like carving a pumpkin, which is why we are so excited to be holding a Pumpkin Carving Contest AG00408_[2]right here at the Gretna Public Library!  This event will be open to adults and teens who are in 6th grade and up (parents must sign a permission slip for teens since we will be using tools for carving).  Those interested in attending need to register at the library by October 21st.  Pumpkins will be provided or you may bring your own if you like, and will be on display at the library until October 27th, so that the public can vote for the pumpkin carvings they like the best.  The teen and adult pumpkin carving that receives the most votes will win a spook-tacular Halloween prize!

Nebraska’s Nature, Naturally

Spotted TurtleWe are excited to welcome educational speaker, Cherrie Beam-Clarke and her program “Nature Naturally” this month. Join us for this special program at Gretna United Methodist Church as we “discover eagles, snakes, possums, spiders, coyotes, insets, skunks, turtles, beaver, deer and more.” This fun and educational program is filled with stories for all ages and features Nebraska’s favorite animals. The program is also enhanced with a number of hands on items for everyone to look at and touch. Cherrie Beam-Clarke is an independant scholar for the Nebraska Humanities Council and has been providing educational programs for over 25 years! This program is open to all ages! L.E.A.R.N. About Forts in Nebraska

BarnesJoin us at the library as we L.E.A.R.N. about the forts of Nebraska. Nebraska Humanities Council speaker and fifth generation Nebraskan, Jeff Barnes, will at the library discussing the twelve forts of Nebraska, wheich were among the first to be built, and their role in helping to promote trade, protect travelers and settlers, fight off Native American tribes that posed a threat, and keep the peace on the Great Plains.  For more info on this program, contact Krissy at the library, 332-4480 or email her at krissyn12@gmail.com.
